more-inThe special support extended by various local self government bodies and government departments has worked well in improving the performance of tribal students in SSLC examinations. Out of the 41 Scheduled Tribe students who wrote the examinations after staying in various tribal hostels, 34 secured eligibility for higher studies. ‘Gothra Saradhi’ was one of the innovative programmes implemented for tribal students in Kozhikode district in the last academic year. In addition to academic support, the department disbursed a special incentive of ₹13 lakh among eligible tribal students (Classes IX and X) in the last academic year. Jayan said there were 10 tribal settlements within the panchayat limits that benefited from the special educational support.
