Mitchell Starc shone with the ball yet again as Australia’s almost unblemished march to the World Cup semi-finals continued with a convincing 86-run win over New Zealand. Kane Williamson’s side had done well to limit to Australia to 243 for nine, with Trent Boult finishing off the innings with a hat-trick. Starc later dismissed Tom Latham, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner to move to 24 wickets in this World Cup, an impressive seven clear of the chasing pack. He removed Henry Nicholls – playing his first game of the World Cup – for eight, caught behind down the leg side, then added Martin Guptill, lbw for 20 playing down the wrong line. It was his second ODI hat-trick in eight months, after achieving the feat against Pakistan in the UAE in November.
