Pleasant Hill is a Native space: predominantly Cree, along with Métis, Anishinaabe, Dene and Inuit. (Chanss Lagaden/CBC)Streetlights are often broken in Pleasant Hill. At Pleasant Hill Community School, I danced fancy shawl and jingle dress with the powwow troupe. These days police brutality and the deteriorating living conditions in Pleasant Hill take up the most space in my mind. We owe our abolitionist reawakenings to Black women and Black communities since time immemorial.
