Nuclear technology provides a cautionary tale. We were introduced to nuclear technology in the form of the atom and hydrogen bombs. Despite the overall risk assessment of nuclear energy remaining highly favorable, and the decades of effort to convince the world of its viability, the word ‘nuclear’ remains tainted. Due to a handful of early missteps with nuclear energy, we have been unable to capitalize on its clean, safe power, and carbon neutrality and energy stability remain a pipe dream. This is a moment for the global community to come together — much like we did fifty years ago at the Biological Weapons Convention — to ensure safe and responsible AI development.
