Readers sound off over farm animal bill, Fixer, Dec. 24To the reader who attacked Jack Lakey at length over his column and said he was “reaching out” to fur trapper associations and anyone else who “works” with animals,” I would point out that they do not “work” with animals — they slaughter them, often in extremely cruel and agonizing ways. As for the reader boasting about his 2.6-pound sirloin tip meat, it would be a very different pleasure I’m sure if he had to kill the animal himself. He is a sad example how people have lost the connection to their food and the living beings that provide it.
