It sent an emergency notice at 4:23pm, warning of power shortages between 5pm and 7:30pm on Tuesday night. "Transpower as system operator advises there are insufficient generation and reserve offers and transmission capacity to meet demand and provide for N-1 security for a contingent event," Transpower stated. Genesis says it has responded with all generation capacity within its control. At the time of the Transpower notice the company had all planned generation in the market for this evening, which includes all hydro, wind and gas generation. During today's 6.10pm Covid update, it was confirmed the Transpower grid notice resulted from a conductor wire falling in North Canterbury.
