Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir inspected on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the main railway workshops in Kom Abu Radi, Beni Suef Governorate to follow up on the comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization of passenger railcars, including Spanish, VIP, “Tahya Misr” model, as well as sleeping cars. Wazir further inspected a number of fully refurbished sleeping cars designated to serve passengers and the tourism sector. The project involves the rehabilitation and development of 65 sleeping and club cars — 55 sleeping cars and 10 club cars – of which 20 cars have been completed so far (19 sleeping cars and one club car). Wazir said the private sector is a key partner in implementing the ministry’s projects, citing examples such as the management and operation of sleeping trains, freight transport activities, and infrastructure projects. Partnerships, he said, help enhance workforce efficiency, increase productivity, maximize the resources of Egyptian National Railways, and contribute to national economic growth.
