Iqbal Hossain Ripon (40), general secretary of Tank Lorry Workers Union Sylhet district unit, was stabbed around 10pm on Friday. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Fazal of Dakshin Surma police station under Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) confirmed the matter. Transport workers barricaded different points of Dakshin Surma upazila protesting the murder until 2pm on Saturday. “They were rescued by others and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where Ripon died an hour later,” he said.
