All stations of Bangkok's elevated Skytrain transit system were closed Saturday afternoon to try to keep protesters from gathering. Protesters met anyway as planned at the Skytrain stations, where they held small impromptu rallies, in effect establishing a temporary but active presence across the city. Once that was announced, money was pooled by participants so they could take taxis to get around the transit shutdown. Protesters attend a rally in Bangkok on Saturday, the latest in a string of anti-government protests that began in late July. A staff member at the Asok BTS Skytrain station gestures to signify the closure of the station ahead of an anti-government rally in Bangkok on Saturday.
