Sport New Zealand’s draft principles for transgender athletes describes research into the benefits of testosterone for transgender women athletes as ‘’unsettled’’. Sport New Zealand has been working on the "complex issue” since November and has been taking submissions from a “representative group of experts, including academics, sports, the rainbow community and advocates for women's sport”. “There is some research relating to the impact of testosterone on the sporting performance of transgender women. Dr Jaimie Veale leads the Transgender Health Research Lab and oversaw Counting Ourselves transgender health survey released in 2019.
