A woman was airlifted from the Heaphy Track in the top of the South Island on Monday – the third in just over a day. A woman rescued from the Heaphy Track has become the third tramper to be flown to Nelson hospital in just over 24 hours. The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter received the callout to the great walk at the top of the South Island, at about 2:50pm on Monday. Pilot Barry McAuliffe​ said the 47-year-old woman had a laceration to her knee after a fall, and was located on the track between the Lewis and Heaphy huts. A woman in her 60s was airlifted to Nelson Hospital at about midday on Sunday after suffering a knee injury on the Perry Saddle on the Heaphy Track.
