Trailer crashes into iconic Weld Quay pedestrian bridge


GEORGE TOWN: Part of the Weld Quay pedestrian bridge, one of the oldest pedestrian bridges in Penang, was damaged after a trailer crashed into the top part of the bridge today. State Caring Society and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said there was a possibility that the whole structure had to be removed for safety reasons. Following the crash, the Weld Quay pedestrian bridge may have to be removed for safety reasons. - NSTP/Mikail Ong“Due to the dangerous situation, we advised all motorists to use alternative routes,” he said. The Weld Quay pedestrian bridge was originally built to connect pedestrians between the jetty, also known as Pengkalan Raja Tun Uda, and the George Town bus terminal, then located off Lebuh Victoria.
