Like the Alien and Terminator, the Predator saga exists primarily because people liked the first one or two movies. We haven’t had a beloved Alien movie since Aliens in 1986, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day was the last Terminator movie that everyone loved, way back in 1991. You’ve got the original Predator, which earned a fine $98 million worldwide on a $15m budget back in 1987, and that’s about it. The danger in relaunching this franchise is that folks who have access to the previous Predator films might just stay in and watch Predator 2 on Blu-Ray. But, again, if we’re only talking about a $40-$60 million release, the risk is minimal.
