In Besant Nagar, traffic signals at the intersection connecting Second Avenue Road with roads leading to Elliot’s Beach are “on the blink” during non-rush hours, causing problems in traffic flow that cannot be papered over. Even during weekends, when the movement towards the beach is high, this situation prevails. Known as Second Avenue junction, this intersection is crucial in providing access to other localities in the region, which include Thiruvanmiyur, Adyar, Taramani, Velachery, R.A. Puram and Pattinapakkam. Despite its importance, Second Avenue junction is denied the benefit of traffic police presence during all significant hours of a day. Traffic signals too will be operated during the day,” police sources said.
