Last year 79 policemen - including four senior officials and nine traffic policemen - were shod dead by unknown gunmen. Traffic DIG Javed Ali Maher told The Express Tribune on Saturday that they had been receiving threats of attacks on traffic cops for several days. According to DIG Maher, all SSPs had been directed to ensure the security of traffic cops present on the roads. "Traffic cops on the roads are the easiest targets and many have recently been martyred. Therefore, we have also sought assistance from the Sindh Police for security," he stated, adding that the police had been requested to deploy armed officers near where traffic cops were deputed.
