Traffic challenge - Changes being considered for Lakeport intersection

The city’s Department of Public Works is considering a plan that would remove parking spaces on Union Avenue and changing travel lanes to improve the intersection with Elm Street. Public Works Director Wes Anderson said traffic signal timing has already been adjusted to minimize backups and wait times, but other changes could improve traffic flow. Vehicles going south on Union Avenue back up traffic when they make a left into businesses north of Elm Street. The Public Works department is considering changing the phasing on the traffic signals at the intersection. On Union Avenue, north of Elm Street there currently is a shared through/left turn lane and a right turn lane for southbound traffic.
