Traffic Deaths Continued To Rise In 2016, But Reasons Why Are Elusive


By Cheryl JensenMore bad news about traffic fatalities was delivered Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the first nine months of 2016, an estimated 27,875 people died in motor vehicle crashes on our roadways. That is an increase of about 8% compared to the 25,808 fatalities in the first nine months of 2015. Traffic deaths in 2015 spiked 7.2% over 2014, which was the largest percentage increase in 50 years. And then in October it launched a Road to Zero coalition to present a 30-year plan to get to zero traffic deaths.
