Traditional start of summer arrives with a vengeance in SouthMetService MetService National Forecast. It may have felt like summer for quite some time, but with the official start of the season the heat is set to ramp up. On Sunday, for now the risk of thundery, heavy showers is restricted to the Urewera and Raukumara ranges. Many inland areas in the upper and central North Island and in the South Island had thunderstorms on Thursday, MetService meteorologist Stephen Glassey said. There is also a high risk of thunderstorms for the top of the South Island.
