Traders in Maralal town are preparing to cash in on a unique sport that is set to take place in Maralal town, Samburu county. Dubbed Maralal Camel Derby- set to start August 25-27 at Yare Camel camp - the event is gearing up as one of the biggest following entries by participants from more than 7 countries. This is due to the high number of local and international tourists flocking in for the 27th edition of the annual Maralal International Camel Derby. The normal rates for standard accommodation in Maralal town has shot from Sh500 to Sh3,000 while in high end hotels that normally charge Sh5,000 are now being booked at Sh10,000 for full board services per day. However, governor Moses Lenolkulal assured the visitors that accommodation will be available to those who will troop into the town for the auspicious event.
