Trader jailed for hoarding rice in Chittagong


A mobile court of the Chittagong district administration has fined a trader for Tk1 lakh and sentenced him to three months imprisonment for hoarding and selling rice at raised prices. Executive Magistrate Syed Murad Ali conducted the mobile court at Chaktai wholesale market in Chittagong city on Tuesday. The arrestee was identified as Didarul Alam, manager of Hazi Badiur Rahman & Sons, and was sentenced under the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009. Meanwhile, a group of miscreants failed in their attempt to free Didarul from custody of police after he was sentenced. The court was forced to call for reinforcements to stop the escape and sentenced Jahidul Islam Shaon, one of the miscreants, to one month imprisonment for obstruction of justice.
