Tourists should not be alarmed by illegal fish bombing incident, says Tourism Deputy Minister - Nation

IPOH: Tourists should not be spooked by the illegal fish bombing incident in Semporna, says Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik. Describing the issue as an isolated case, Muhammad Bakhtiar said it will not affect tourists from visiting Sabah. “In my opinion, we should let the Malaysian Marine Department to release a statement,” he told reporters after opening a tourism seminar here on Saturday. It was reported that a local dive master and two tourists from China were believed to have been killed by fish bombs, while diving in waters near Kelapuan Island in Semporna, Sabah. Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew have called for stricter penalties to be imposed on the culprits.
