KUCHING: Sarawak's Tourism Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is surprised by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng's response to his request for the tourism tax revenue to be paid to the state. Abdul Karim said he was merely asking for the RM2.7mil in tourism tax due to Sarawak, and had no intention of defaming anyone or politicising the issue. "Both had announced in Parliament that 50% of the tourism tax collected by any state would be channelled back to the respective state for tourism development and activities. He also said he was in Sabah recently and enquired whether the state had been paid the tourism tax revenue. To this, Abdul Karim said Sarawak's outstanding loan was unrelated to the tourism tax revenue.
