Said Scofield: “The museum’s elephant has suffered greatly from the ravages of time. It is hoped it will be once again put on display if the museum’s redevelopment proposal receives resource consent. In 1877, Haast employed the famed Austrian taxidermist Andreas Reischek to mount the elephant skin on a frame of iron, wood and clay.
