Tory general election manifesto released confirming no-deal Brexit threat in 2020

Although Boris Johnson has said this before it is the first time it has appeared in black-and-white as a Tory manifesto pledge - binding a Conservative government. That is because the Tories' plan gives the new Prime Minister just 11 months to secure a full-blown trade deal with the EU. Those deals will start with the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan - plus the EU, despite the fact Brussels took seven years to negotiate a previous trade deal with Canada. Mr Johnson said the manifesto would lead to a Britain where "the streets are safer" and "the air is cleaner". The manifesto pledges to get rid of the Fixed Term Parliaments Act - which three times prevented Boris Johnson from calling an election.
