Tory councillor to appear in court accused of nine child sex offences


Cllr David Smith, who represents Coulby Newham on Middlesbrough Council, has been charged with nine counts of sexual touching of a child, according to Teeside Live. Earlier this month Cllr Smith was forced to apologise after comments surfaced where he said people on benefits were "pond life". He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on August 7 in connection with the alleged offences. Cllr Smith has resigned from the Conservative Party but intends to remain as a councillor.
