The Toronto Maple Leafs survived an avalanche, and possible elimination, in Game 5 against Chara’s Bruins on Saturday night, and it looked familiar in more ways than one. Five years ago, a month or so after beating the Leafs in Game 7, Zdeno Chara was hiding behind a curtain. But it was a dangerous way to live for a team with no margin for error, and which faces another potential elimination game Monday night. Of course, Gardiner said he flashed back to Game 7 after Saturday night’s game, when Toronto blew a 4-1 lead. Stay out of the box, and Toronto has a better chance of staying out of the casket.
