A team of surgeons from two Toronto hospitals made Canadian medical history this year performing in-utero surgery on a 25-week-old fetus to repair a form of spina bifida. She hasn’t required any further interventions for spina bifida since the surgery. Though the severity of spina bifida varies, many children with the condition require mobility supports such as leg braces, crutches or wheelchairs. Doctors from Mount Sinai and Sick Kids hospital today celebrated Canada's first in-utero surgery for the treatment of Spina Bifida. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne joined the family at Mount Sinai and Sick Kids hospital to celebrate Canada's first in-utero surgery for the treatment of spina bifida.
