Toronto police will not reveal how many officers will be on hand at this weekend’s Nuit Blanche festival, despite outbreaks of violence and a confrontation between police and a large crowd at last year’s event. Videos posted to YouTube after Nuit Blanche 2015 show a tense encounter between several dozen people and an outnumbered group of Toronto police officers at Yonge-Dundas Square. In one video, an officer is hit in the head with a glass bottle thrown by a member of the crowd. In another video, officers are forced back into a glass kiosk at the north end of the square, as the crowd surges forward. “We never give out specifics of number or types of officers that staff any of these events,” said Toronto police spokesperson Meaghan Gray.
