After an “overwhelming response” to the gun buyback program, Toronto police and the city have recovered 2,338 firearms for a price of $570,000 since the three-week initiative began, police said Friday, the last day of the program. Chris Boddy told the Star. “I personally think this buyback will make a difference,” Tory said at a news conference held at Toronto police headquarters. Boddy said “it’s hard to predict” what kind of difference the buyback program will have on gun violence within Toronto. He said while police are keeping track of people who surrender their guns that were involved in previous criminal offences, participants of the buyback program will not face any charges for possessing or storing their firearms.
