Just in time for the new school year, the Toronto public board and its secondary teachers have reached a tentative deal. News of the agreement came early Friday morning — months after the board and other employee unions reached settlments — and will be up for a vote by teachers in the first or second week of September. “The board did reach a tentative local agreement early (Friday) morning, with its 5,400 permanent high school teachers,” said Ryan Bird of the Toronto District School Board. “The next step, now, is for it to be ratified by OSSTF (union) and the TDSB.”Parents and students were already inquiring about whether the popular weekly late starts — which allow schools a chance to have full staff meetings and give teens extra time to themselves in the morning — will resume.
