The urge to sew a ‘C’ on Auston Matthews — or the sweater of another Maple Leaf — will have to wait at least another season. Speaking to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun on Wednesday, Lamoriello echoed the sentiment of many around town and the organization that the incubating Leafs have more pressing issues than naming a full-time captain for the 2017-18 season. “I would not be surprised if we did not have a captain next year,” Lamoriello said. Lamoriello said nothing will be done to address the backup goaltending situation until July 1 when 34-year-old Curtis McElhinney becomes a free agent. “We’ll certainly fill that position,” he said, “whether it’s Curtis or whoever we feel is the right person.”
