Spotlight is on Marner In the absence of Auston Matthews and William Nylander for the Leafs pre-season opener, Mitch Marner gets the first-round pick spotlight all to himself. Marner will be in the lineup when the Leafs face the Senators here on Monday, looking to build on a solid opening weekend of training camp. “They’ve played years here in the NHL and they know what they are talking about,” Marner said. Perhaps more importantly, however, Marner is learning to use his body to optimum effectiveness while continuing the process of building strength. I saw some little things that are very impressive.”One of the top priorities for Leafs brass at this camp is to see where Marner fits.
