Toronto Maple Leafs ‘can’t get off track’ at trade deadline, GM Lou Lamoriello says

“First of all, there’s not one team in the NHL that’s never wanted to be in the playoffs,” general manager Lou Lamoriello said on a Sunday afternoon travel day for the team. Intersecting the road trip is deadline day, Lamoriello staying behind to run the Bay St. war room. Head coach Mike Babcock has already said the Leafs won’t be making news and Lamoriello seemed to echo that on Sunday. There is always the chance a bona fide Cup contending team comes after a Leafs veteran, say forward James van Riemsdyk, offering picks or prospects. “The most encouraging things have been from the younger players and I think that’s meant the veterans are having their best years, too.”
