OAKLAND — At the minimum, Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons talks about his team’s dependence on the home-run ball twice a week. And yes, that math adds up to all seven Jays runs coming courtesy of the home-run ball. Way back in the second inning, Smoak got it started with a solo shot, followed later in the inning by Pillar, who is re-heating at the plate. The latest home-run exhibition for the Jays helped make up for the continued defensive misadventures, most notably in left field. In Wednesday’s win, the Jays scored their seven runs on just six hits, a boxscore statement that says everything you need to know about the Toronto offence.
