Toronto Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson to get MRI after missing three games with hip injury

Out of the lineup for a third-straight game, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is heading for an MRI on his ailing hip. “I think Josh, probably, felt that he would recover sooner than it has and it hasn’t,” Jays GM Ross Atkins said prior to the final game of a series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre on Wednesday. RelatedMired in an 0-for-23 slump prior to the injury, Donaldson had not recorded a hit in seven straight starts, the longest stretch of starts without a hit in his six-year big league career. The reigning AL MVP, who was being considered once again for the award this season, also went 33 at-bats without a hit during a tough stretch from June 6-15, 2014. Atkins said he expects Donaldson to travel with the team to California for the start of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.
