Toronto’s Civic Theatres announce new season

A 60th-anniversary visit from Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, an award-winning British play about the slave trade and a homemade work that celebrates the bicycle are among the offerings from Civic Theatres Toronto in 2018-19. The theatres, which include the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts and the Toronto Centre for the Arts, present a vast range of entertainment, including music, dance, theatre, cabaret and circus shows. Other dance presentations include Ballet BC, visiting Toronto for the first time in almost a decade; Australia’s Circa, the Batsheva Dance Company, Eifman Ballet and Indigenous choreographer Daina Ashbee. The theatre productions include salt by Selina Thompson, winner of the Stage Edinburgh Award, at the Toronto Centre for the Arts in February 2019. It traces Thompson’s journey by cargo ship on the transatlantic routes of the slave trade from the U.K. to Uganda and Jamaica.
