AdvertisementAs Britain's biggest rhododendron burst into flower today, the Met Office has warned that temperatures could plummet to -5C (23F) as an Icelandic plunge freezes the UK. The plant can wait as late as autumn to bloom but usually bursts into flower in the summer's hot conditions. Today the chill hits the Midlands, north of England and Scotland, which can expect wet and windy conditions. Sleet and snow showers are possible in North Wales, the Pennines and the North York Moors, while overnight frosts are likely in most areas tomorrow and Wednesday. A frontal system is set to move into northern England that day, which could bring more snow to the Pennines.
