THE search is on for the next EY Young Tax Professional of the Year (EY YTPY) Malaysia 2020.The competition is organised by Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd (EY), in collaboration with Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDNM).Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the competition will be fully conducted virtually.Malaysian undergraduates and postgraduates, enrolled in local or foreign universities, are invited to vie for the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the inter-national EY YTPY competition to be held at the end of the year.At the international final, the Malaysian representative will compete with other country winners from around the world for the title of “EY Young Tax Professional of the Year”.The winner will walk away with prize money of up to RM8,000 and internship opportunities or conditional offers of employment with the EY member firm in Malaysia.As a first step, interested Malaysian participants are required to submit their response to a case study by Sept 22.The response, to be submitted in the form of a PowerPoint presentation and a video presentation, will be assessed for individual evidence of critical thinking and analytical strengths, creativity, commercial awareness and executive presence.A shortlist of 10 finalists will then be challenged with a case study and be invited to virtually meet and present their findings to the panel of judges, headed by a representative from LHDNM, in October.The top three winners of the EY YTPY 2020 Malaysia competition will be announced on the same day.Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd EY Asean tax leader and Malaysia tax leader Amarjeet Singh said the competition is a platform to promote the tax profession and nurture the tax leaders of the future.“In these unprecedented times, we believe this competition will challenge and stretch the participants to think beyond theoretical knowledge and toask better questions as they tackle real business issues presented to them.“They will need to be creative and think out-of-the-box in coming up with answers that will bring about positive and sustainable outcomes and potentially help businesses grow and improve in the new norm.”Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd partner and EY YTPY Malaysia programme director Hisham Halim said the competition is “a game-changing experience for undergraduates looking to raise their game and reimagine their careers.“At both the national and international levels, they will need to draw on their commercial awareness and analytical and creative thinking skills to derive innovative solutions to help companies navigate real, complex business issues, and succeed,” he said during the virtual launch of the competition.For more information, visit http://ey.com/my/careers/ytpy
