Two civilians, Tahira, 44, and Shadab Ahmad Chopan, 21, were also killed during the operation in Brenti Bat Pora village in Dialgam area of the district, police said. Chopan was allegedly killed in security forces' action against protesters near the encounter site. Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Brenti-Batpora in Anantnag early today after they received information about the presence of militants, including Lashkari. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on security forces. However, security forces managed to rescue them before launching a final assault against the terrorists.
