"We fully respect and support the decision made by the Auckland school principals. Last month, New Zealand Rugby (NZR) made moves to try to take control of secondary school rugby, but the controversial play was met with plenty of resistance. They also argued the attempt by NZR to run school rugby was about having greater control over the development of the elite players and to further commercialise school rugby.
