Eating too many sweets may be bad for your health, but it turns out their excessive packaging is also not good for the earth. Environmental group The Green Earth looked at the packaging of more than 400 candy products sold in 13 supermarkets in the past two months and found that more than 53 percent did not have recycling instructions. The group revealed that more than 340 million pieces of plastic were used to package candy products in Hong Kong, according to a study last year. Three manufacturers - Mars, Ferrero and Nestle - were called out for not following their commitment to eliminate plastic wrapping before 2025, as they refused to provide figures for the amount of plastic used in their packaging and did not offer recyclable options. That's just one more thing to consider when buying sweets now!
