The Tony Awards nominations are already giving a boost to the Broadway box office. Ticket sales for The Band’s Visit soared 543 percent on Thursday and Friday compared to the previous week, for instance, while ticket sales for SpongeBob SquarePants jumped 337 percent, Mean Girls grew 146 percent, and Frozen climbed 72 percent. “Even for a show that was already hot and had a lot of energy, [the recent Tony Awards nominations] have blown the roof off even that high ceiling,” commented Brian Fenty, TodayTix’s chief executive officer. But, the recent surge in demand for Broadway tickets might be only the beginning. “After the Tony Awards,” Fenty said that “there is usually a little lull before tourist season ramps up in full swing.” “But, then we will party through the rest of the summer,” he laughed, and Broadway will welcome a slate of new shows.
