ECOWAS is one of a number of regional blocs in Africa and like the rest of these regional blocs ECOWAS has failed and continues to fail at its main objective. ECOWAS’ handling of the situation in Togo is the best example of how ineffective this regional body has been. The current Chairman of ECOWAS, Faure Gnassingbé, has been in power in Togo since 2005. The chairman of ECOWAS is doing such a miserable job at running his country that he is afraid to to have an ECOWAS meeting in his country. One of the issues that were mentioned at the ECOWAS summit was the situation in Guinea-Bissau, which has been a very costly one for ECOWAS.
