A 2-year-old boy has died this week after a makeshift wooden play structure collapsed and crushed him, authorities said. The boy, who has not been identified, was playing on the wooden structure in his front yard Wednesday when it collapsed and pinned him, said Ray Pruitt, spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. The boy’s mother ran over to the boy and plucked him out from the wood pile, Pruitt said. He was taken to an area hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. Detectives were investigating to determine whether there were any signs of negligence or child endangerment, Pruitt said.
