It is a great personal and professional pleasure to send birthday greetings out from Art’s History to a fellow Kingstonian, Peter Milliken. Peter was born on this date in 1946. He served as Kingston’s MP from 1988 until 2011 and remains the longest-serving MP for the riding. More importantly, Peter was elected Speaker of the House of Commons in 2001 and was continuously re-elected by MPs of all party stripes to serve as their Speaker for the next ten years. A man of grace, class and born for friendship, I know all readers of Art’s History will join me in wishing Speaker Milliken a happy birthday.
