Tobacco, alcohol usage: School-level national action plan launched

By Sarah HannanThe Ministry of Health yesterday (8) announced that a national action plan is to be launched along with the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Control to prevent the usage among the youth. We are looking to adapt a national plan with a scientific process for the prevention of tobacco and alcohol usage among adolescents and youth,” Wanniarachchi noted. The implementation of drug prevention counselling and awareness programmes, drug prevention programmes, and monitoring were discussed. “Commit to Quit” is said to help create healthier environments that are conducive to quit tobacco by advocating for strong tobacco cessation policies, increase access to cessation services, raise awareness of tobacco industry tactics, and empower tobacco users to make successful quit attempts through “quit and win” initiatives. Together with partners, WHO will provide people with the tools and resources they need to make a successful quit attempt.
