The Taliban have taken over most of Afghanistan in a little more than a week and have entered Kabul without facing resistance. The Taliban’s control over Afghanistan after twenty years will have both short term and long term implications for its neigbouring countries, particularly Pakistan. Statements from the Taliban that they would not allow anyone to use Afghan territory against other countries would satisfy few. The Taliban have to satisfy Pakistan and other concerned countries how they intend to deal with the terrorists operating from their soil. Unlike Afghanistan, Pakistan was created to become a modern federal democracy with Islamic concept of people’s welfare high on its agenda.
