A proposal by a task force looking into the competency based curriculum to progressively end boarding schools in the new education system has been received with mixed reactions. There are some who think it is a noble idea, while others see it as shallow thinking and ignorant. Many boarding schools in Kenya date back to the colonial period. They included Nairobi School, which served children of the top colonial government officials, and Lenana School, which served children of white settlers. In former British colonies, such as India and Nigeria, boarding schools are one of the preferred modes of education.
