Both the ruling Conservative Party and the Opposition Labour Party were trashed by an electorate thoroughly fed up with Brexit. Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party soared, topping the polls with 32% of the vote. He warned other British politicians that if the U.K. hadn’t left by October 31, the Brexit Party would fight the next General Election. There is no clear majority for either hard Brexit or Remain, and everyone hates the only available compromise. Public opinion is much more polarized than it was in 2016: the only viable outcomes now are no-deal Brexit or Remain.
