The government is set to allocate Tk400 crore in the upcoming fiscal year to run humanitarian programme including cash support to the flood-ravaged Haor people of seven districts for the next one year, sources said. Rather, after overcoming the disaster, the Haor people would contribute to the national economy using the funds in agriculture, boosting the Gross Domestic Product, he observed. The government on April 23 announced that some 335,000 families of the Haor region would get 30kg rice and Tk500 as monthly relief under a 100-day scheme. The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry has been disbursing Tk 49.50cr as cash support from a Tk 100-crore special allocation of the current FY. Meanwhile, despite the government relief campaign, the allocated amount of rice and cash is not sufficient, alleged the victims.
